TCL Communication South Africa has announced the launch of its TCL 20 R 5G smartphone, which the company touts as one of the most affordable 5G phones in South Africa.

The company is known for its affordable smartphones and televisions, with the 20 R 5G being one of its latest launches. The Android phone will be available to consumers through Truworths stores.

The brand has been expanding its footprint locally and the launch of this handset is part of the company’s plan to make 5G devices more accessible.

The company also says that the launch makes future-proofed devices more affordable, with 5G networks steadily increasing around the country.

“Right now, democratising 5G and making it accessible to the mass market is one of our top priorities. The TCL 20 R 5G represents an incredible balance of affordability and fast mobile internet. It ensures a future-proofed 5G smartphone for an affordable price that is accessible to all,” Ernst Wittmann, Regional Manager for Southern and East Africa at TCL Communication, said in a statement.

So besides its 5G support, what other features does the TCL 20 R 5G include?

The phone features a 6.52-inch HD+ (720 x1600 pixels) display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset and includes a 4500mAh battery. According to TCL, this battery provides up to 10 hours of video playback and 34 hours of talk time.

The smartphone also has a triple-camera setup. For its main camera, the phone has a 13MP main lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth lens. On the front, it features an 8MP selfie camera.

It also sports a fingerprint sensor on the back.
